So I have been encouraged to sign up to the 23 things for research from Surrey Uni to finally face my social media / research / technology fears.
It has been drilled into me by various employers that I need to be very careful about my online social media presence because of the nature of my work (trainee clinical psychologist). Normally I carefully filter what I post and I make myself quite elusive to find on Facebook. Also my excessively technophobic ways means I have very few social media accounts because I don’t feel confident at creating, using or maintaining them. I will shamefully admit that this took me two hours to work out how to create, even following a step-by-step guide.
I am at the beginning of a three year doctorate which is half research and half clinical work. It is important I can network and meet other people doing similar things and to have access to their work, and equally to hopefully share my own later on (I don’t want to get ahead of myself). This is why I am facing all the fears and accepting the challenge to become more technologically minded, and to push myself into the online world rather than hide away as usual. Wish me luck!
